It was just over a mile from St Bartholomew's Church to the London Welsh Centre, and the coffin was to be carried all the way by the six pall-bearers. The Alaskan Highlanders had come all the way from Alaska to pipe the coffin through the streets, and led the procession. The London Police did a magnificent job of clearing the way for the marchers, and despite the heat and distance, the pall-bearers refused any assistance as they carried the coffin the whole way unaided. Very soon they were all at the Welsh Centre, where the pall-bearers laid the coffin in front of the stage and retired for a well-earned pint before the evening's festivities commenced.
